People gripped by gold fever flock to New Zealand from all corners of the globe.
Because so many sailors abandon their ships to chase after gold, the ship *James* cannot find a crew to set sail.
Captain Gibson, who spends days scouring taverns for a crew, strikes a deal with Balt and Mod, and they embark on the voyage. However, Balt and Mod are plotting illicit schemes.
The Kip brothers—Karl and Peter—are rescued by this ship after their own vessel meets with disaster and they barely manage to reach an island.
Karl is a sailor, while Peter Kip is a merchant. The arrival of the Kip brothers on board throws Balt and Mod’s plans into disarray. Amidst this turmoil, Captain Gibson dies, and the Kip brothers are held responsible for his death.
A struggle for survival begins for the brothers as they languish in prison, awaiting a death sentence. You will witness this struggle and read the story in a single breath...
